SPLC invites journal-first presentations for papers published recently in high quality software engineering journals such as for example TSE, TOSEM, EMSE, SoSyM and JSS. The goal is to offer the authors an opportunity to interact directly with the community and offer the SPLC attendees a richer program and opportunities. The journal-first manuscripts are published through the journals and a one-page summary will appear in the SPLC proceedings with a pointer to the journal publication.
A journal-first presentation submitted to SPLC 2023 must adhere to the following criteria:
- The paper is available at the publisher web site in the time frame of May 2021 to April 2023.
- The paper is clearly in the scope of the conference, as defined in the call for SPLC 2023 research papers.
- The paper reports completely new research results or presents novel contributions that significantly extend and were not previously presented at the SPLC conference
- The paper has not been presented at, and is not under consideration for, journal-first programs of other similar conferences.
- The paper has the potential to offer novel insights and research directions to the SPLC community.
Evaluation. Proposals will be selected according to the quality of the publication and journal after checking that the paper is in scope to the conference. As the papers have been already reviewed and accepted by the journals, they will not be reviewed again for technical content. Our plan is to include in the journal first program as many papers as possible; only in case an exceptionally high number of proposals is received, not all submissions might be selected. If needed, presentation proposals will be prioritized according to the conference theme and structure of the sessions.
How to Submit
Authors of manuscripts that respect the above-mentioned criteria are invited to submit a one-page presentation proposal consisting of the paper title, authors, an extended abstract, and a pointer to the original journal paper.
Submissions must adhere to the latest ACM Master Article Template: https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template.
Latex users should use the “sigconf” option, so they are recommended to use the template that can be found in “sample-sigconf.tex”. In this way, the following latex code can be placed at the start of the latex document to create a double column layout:

We are committed to improve author discoverability, ensure proper attribution and contribute to ongoing community efforts around name normalization; your ORCID ID will help in these efforts.

The author of the accepted submission must pay a full registration fee for the submission to be published. SPLC 2023 is primarily a physical event and papers are expected to be presented on site, except where no co-author is able to attend SPLC 2023 in Tokyo. If any co-author of a paper is attending physically, they will need to present the paper. If no co-author is able to come to Tokyo to present an accepted paper, we ask that you let us know for which paper no co-author is able to present in-person. Such remote presenters will be accommodated for presenting online, live where feasible or else via a recording in exceptional circumstances.
